I don’t know about you guys, but I’m a huge board game collector and fan. If I’m at a local bar and see a board game on the shelves? I’ll be inclined to pull it down and challenge my companion to a game over a beer or two.
At home, I’ve got the basics: Yahtzee, Monopoly, Scrabble, Battleship, Connect 4. Then there are the fun group games like Apples To Apples and Cards Against Humanity. And of course, now horror themed games are slowly becoming a part of the board game lexicon!
My Shock Waves co-host Ryan Turek had myself and a small group of friends over to play Mixtape Massacre a few weeks back, and I immediately fell in love with it.
Mixtape Massacre is a tabletop board game where up to 6 players choose from 1 of 8 horror archetypes and compete in a fictional 1986 killing spree. You make your way through the small town of Tall Oaks, dispatching victims, collecting kills, and engaging in iconic brawls with other players along the way, in a bid to prove who is the baddest of the iconic horror brood! It’s truly a great amalgamation of all the great horror properties we grew up with. It’s technically not the actual horror icons, but riffs on everyone from Pennywise to Carrie to Freddy and Jason.
After playing it, I wanted my own copy immediately, but it’s been sold out for a while now! Mixtape Massacre started as a Kickstarter campaign back in 2015 launched by Bright Light Media. They hit their goal, and the collectible games went out to the lucky contributors that had the foresight to see that this game belongs in every horror fan’s collection.
But all hope is not lost! Earlier today, the gang behind Mixtape Massacre released the following trailer. Yes, a second printing of the game is coming and you’ll be able to pre-order it on March 31st, 2017! Check out the trailer below.
