Check Out What Happens When You Pour Molten Aluminum into an Empty Ant Hill

File this one under reasons why science and nature kick ass. A sculptor has found a way to combine both into some very cool art. In the South, fire ants are insanely painful pests that you quickly dispatch of upon discovery. But they leave behind intricate and beautiful underground networks. Here, an old fire ant colony is filled with molten aluminum then dug out of the ground. The result is a perfect model of the super highway system that is inside the ant hill. This has actually become a new art trend in some circles. You can find dozens of these artistic ant-made sculptures on eBay. Just search “Fire Ant Art”. And check out this rad video of the process below!
