NSFW: Women in Horror Month Presents Ama Lea’s Bloody Erotic Short IT’S IN YOU TO GIVE

If you missed our earlier features on Women in Horror Month’s ninth annual Blood Drive (a.k.a. #WiHM9), be sure to check out some of their awesome horror-themed Public Service Announcements this year. We’ve previously showcased Izzy Lee’s vampire parody IT’S IN YOU, and showed you Jen & Sylvia Soska gender-bending the hell out of Marvel’s “Merc with a Mouth” in TWINPOOL.

Since few (if any) creative restrictions have been placed on the PSA filmmakers for the campaign — apart from #WiHM9’s common theme “Be a Hero” — many of these artists hold back nothing in terms of extreme content.

Case in point: IT’S IN YOU TO GIVE, the totally unsafe-for-work PSA from photographer-director Ama Lea — whose work you’ve likely seen throughout the horror realm, including her gallery portrait series The Bloody Best, countless pictorials for Fangoria and other genre publications, and the “Year of Fear” horror pin-up calendar series. Lea’s short films have also been successful on the festival circuit, with a “Best Horror Comedy Short” win for her latest film FROM HELL SHE RISES.

But IT’S IN YOU TO GIVE, also hosted on the Soskas’ YouTube channel, is probably Lea’s most jaw-dropping film achievement to date, fusing sex and death, horror and eroticism in a simple, dialogue-free and beautifully-executed (no pun intended) bedroom scenario.

You can make up any backstory or explanation you want, but that’s really beside the point; the whole concept of giving yourself over completely, in a literally carnal sense, is captured here in a way that might also work well as a photo or painting (Edvard Munch’s famous Love and Pain, a.k.a. Vampire, comes to mind), but the hazy, dreamlike build and shocking climax (pun very much intended) are, to my mind, better suited to a moving-picture image.

“To me, there is something so heroic about giving your all to another person,” Lea explains. “To me the ability to give unselfishly to another person is heroic and it’s the same as giving blood. The simple act of donating blood can help save lives.”

With that said, let me remind you one last time: the following video contains nudity and graphic violence… so don’t blame me if you get caught watching it in a less-than-appropriate place.

Okay, so take a deep breath, and seek out your nearest blood donation center — so you can give some of yourself (though not nearly as much as depicted in this PSA, please) to help others in need.
