Can you believe THE DARK TOWER is finally hitting theaters on August 4th?! It feels like it’s been forever since Stephen King’s epic series of novels has been promising to make its way to cinemas! But it is almost upon us. And with the impending release comes yet another featurette.
In this, you’ll hear from Stephen King himself, screenwriter Akiva Goldsman and stars Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. Check it!
There’s also been a tremendous amount of concern over the film’s running time. Early reports indicate the feature (which may or may not actually act as a sequel to the series of novels?) is the average 95 minutes long. How can you combine elements of 3 novels into a 95 minute movie? The King has set the record straight, and I listen to the King.
It’s true THE DARK TOWER movie runs a clean 95 minutes. Like the first book in the series (224 pages), it’s all killer and no filler.

Besides, if all goes according to plan, this is just the beginning for The Gunslinger. THE DARK TOWER was always conceived as a story told through both feature films and an epic television series.
In an interview with Deadline, writer Goldsman said, “The first episode of a show has been written, and we hope to retain Ron Howard’s original idea to mix platforms, something that seemed revolutionary 10 years ago but now is something that others have done.”
“Idris for sure is part of this, and if the movie is Roland Deschain the gunslinger, the show is his origin story, based on the fourth novel in the series, WIZARD AND GLASS.”
