If you’re itching for more creepy footage from the upcoming live-action adaptation of Tsugumi Ohba’s classic manga DEATH NOTE, today’s definitely your lucky day… because a new trailer has just dropped featuring Willem Dafoe in the chilling role of Ryuk, the embodiment of a shinigami — literally a god of Death in human form.
Directed by Adam Wingard (YOU’RE NEXT), DEATH NOTE stars Nat Wolff as Light Turner, who obtains the cursed journal of the title, and soon discovers that anyone whose name is written on its pages is literally marked for death. Ryuk — a red-eyed, spiny demon cackling in Dafoe’s unmistakable tones — explains how the Death Note journal works, and Turner subsequently decides to use its murderous power as a force for justice… but as you can imagine, there are a few drawbacks to this plan.
In addition to Dafoe’s character, the new trailer casts a light on Mia (Margaret Qualley), who supports Light’s decision… as well as his arch-nemesis, the mysterious “L” (Lakeith Stanfield), who is hot on the trail of mysterious, unexplained murders, and knows Turner is somehow involved.

DEATH NOTE is slated to hit Netflix on August 25. More details to come, so stay tuned!
