Jack Black & Die Antwoord Go Rat-Sh*t Insane in the Short Film TOMMY CAN’T SLEEP [NSFW]

“Yo, you wanna see something cool? Come look inside the Rat Hole…”

That’s the eerie bedside invitation given by Yolandi Visser of South African rap duo Die Antwoord to a young boy named Tommy (16 Jones), who apparently hasn’t slept for days because — and this is a direct quote from the YouTube description — “there’s rats in his room and his stupid fuckin dumb bitch mom doesn’t believe him.”

Now you have the setup for TOMMY CAN’T SLEEP — a five-minute short which Visser directs, edits and co-stars in. Joining her in front of the camera is Die Antwoord co-founder Ninja and the band’s producer God, with a bizarre cameo from Jack Black as an alternate-universe adult version of Tommy — who presides over an army of contortionists, monster-human hybrids, half-eaten corpses and (of course) hundreds of live rats.

“We got tits, ass, ninjas, guns, freaks… and a lotta fuckin’ rats,” Yolandi tells the f-bomb-dropping kid (among other things), and that’s pretty much a dead-on description of what you can expect to see in this explicit and totally bonkers short.

Do I even need to remind you again that this film is not safe for work? Well, I just did, so there you go.

The only thing you won’t find in this short is Die Antwood’s own music (although TOMMY features a few alternate clips from the video for “Fat Faded Fuck Face,” also directed by Visser). Instead, we’re treated to a nightmarish score by The Black Goat (a.k.a. DJ Muggs, formerly of Cypress Hill), blending dark ambient experimental noise with old school down-tempo rhythms.
