Sometimes, the making of horror films can be just as compelling and fascinating as the fiction being depicted in front of the camera. And here’s a story that I think warrants a solid look. It’s the new documentary NOT A WAR STORY, which tells the behind-the-scenes story of 80 veterans that set out to make a zombie feature. That feature, RANGE 15, was released in 2016 and did very well via digital platforms such as Amazon and iTunes. But this is the story of getting it to the finish line for release.
Have a look at the trailer below:
No official release date is set for the doc, but RANGE 15 is now available, and you’ll recognize plenty of genre alumni such as Keith David, Danny Trejo and William Shatner! Here’s the trailer for that:
NOT A WAR STORY is a documentary by award-winning filmmaker Tim O’Donnell that tells the behind the scenes story of RANGE 15.
RANGE 15, which starred Mat Best, Nick Palmisciano, Jack Mandaville, Vincent Vargas and Jarred Taylor and featured William Shatner, Sean Astin, Keith David, Randy Couture and Danny Trejo was director Ross Patterson’s breakout independent hit from 2016. Range 15 was the first Hollywood movie made by veterans from start to finish, and it topped the Amazon charts and hit #2 on iTunes, but it almost didn’t happen.
NOT A WAR STORY tells the tale of the five guys who set their sights on making a Hollywood film, the director crazy enough to take them on, but most importantly, the veteran community that help them up every time they came close to failure. Where RANGE 15 is outlandish and funny, NOT A WAR STORY is a powerful and poignant film that shows the unbreakable bonds present in the veteran community.
