We’ve always known that THE MUMMY has been intended to kick off yet another monster-based “shared” universe, which quite frankly, is something the original Universal Monster movies did to begin with. I always kind of appreciate that each sequel would pick up where ever the last one left off (like The Wolfman and Frankenstein’s monster embedded in ice!), so I’m all for continuity!
But, after months of rumors, including Johnny Depp being on queue to play THE INVISIBLE MAN, Universal Pictures today made this upcoming slate official and have dubbed it their “DARK UNIVERSE.”
The promo photo above confirms Depp as THE INVISIBLE MAN, and Javier Bardem as the Frankenstein’s Monster, who join Russell Crowe (Dr. Jekyll), Tom Cruise, and Sofia Boutella who will all debut in THE MUMMY, out June 9th.
Here’s the freshly released teaser trailer with a brand new theme by Danny Elfman!
The next film in the slate? BEAUTY & THE BEAST director Bill Condon will helm BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, which arrives in theaters February 14, 2019.
