Well, this kind of came out of nowhere!
It started with a Facebook post by famed comic book artist & HELLBOY creator Mike Mignola.
This came as a huge shock to HELLBOY fans, considering Guillermo del Toro had helmed the first two HELLBOY movies with Ron Perlman in the title role. The pair had always wanted to complete their proposed trilogy. But this “reboot” seems to be legit!
Shortly after the above Facebook post, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news. According to the trade, Millennium is in negotiations with producers Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin for a new installment. Mike Richardson of Dark Horse Entertainment is also producing.
Negotiations mean just that. Negotiations. So, none of this is 100 percent a done deal, as of yet. But of note is who they’ve got lined up to direct and play Hellboy. Behind the camera would be Neil Marshall (!) who has directed such classics as THE DESCENT, DOG SOLDIERS and DOOMSDAY, not to mention some episode of GAME OF THRONES and CONSTANTINE. STRANGER THINGS David Harbour (!) is said to be eyed to take over the role of HELLBOY. With that pairing, seems like an intriguing way to go!
Marshall is now developing a new script with Aron Coleite. We’ll keep you posted when we hear more!
