Blumhouse Productions & Universal Announce New Version Of Stephen King’s FIRESTARTER!

After a screening of STEPHANIE at the Overlook Film Festival, director Akiva Goldsman and producer Jason Blum announced their next project together. A new adaptation of Stephen King’s novel FIRESTARTER!

Scream Factory recently re-released the original 1984 version of FIRESTARTER directed by Mark Lester and starring a young Drew Barrymore. The film follows a father and his telekinetic daughter on the run from a secret government agency.

Universal is developing the new adaptation alongside Blumhouse Productions, which will be directed by Akiva Goldsman from a script by Scott Teems. Akiva also helmed the film WINTER’S TALE, but was an exec producer on PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2, 3 and 4. We’ll let you know more as it comes in.

Our next Stephen King adaptation on the big screen will be IT, which arrives in theaters September 8th!
