The summer of 2017 is almost upon us, and there are plenty of horror films on the way! While you are planning your vacation, be sure to include some trips to the movie theater as well. Here are 10 horror films slated for May through September of 2017 that have piqued our interest.
ALIEN: COVENANT- May 19
This will hopefully be a freaking awesome way to kick-off the summer! Director Ridley Scott returns to give us this second installment in the ALIEN “prequel” series.
BERLIN SYNDROME- May 26
BELRIN SYNDROME recently premiered at Sundance, and the hype around it has been growing. A journalist on a backpacking expedition has a one-night fling with a debonair stranger. She wakes up the next morning to find she is being held captive, and the handsome stranger has no intentions of ever letting her leave.
THE MUMMY- June 9
Universal is planning to reboot several of the classic monster series, and THE MUMMY is the first on the slate. The film looks a bit more action than horror, but with a massive budget and all-star cast it is set to be the giant summer blockbuster.
IT COMES AT NIGHT- June 9
The trailer for this movie has us totally excited! It seems so quiet, subdued, and terrifying. A desperate family is forced to hide out in a desolate farmhouse which is housing an evil entity.
47 METERS DOWN- June 16
Sharks are really an ideal topic for a good summer movie! Two girls are trapped at the bottom of the ocean in a broken shark cage while Great Whites surround them. They must figure out how to get back to the surface before they run out of oxygen. Ok, I’m in! It sounds like this summer’s answer to THE SHALLOWS which was one of my highlights from last year.
THE BEGUILED- June 23
The original 1971 film doesn’t get nearly as much love as it deserves, so we are excited to see what Sofia Coppola has in store for this reboot. A confederate soldier takes refuge at a girl’s boarding school and slowly turns all the ladies against each other.
AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING- June 30
Bella Thorne and Jennifer Jason Leigh star in this newest addition to the Amityville franchise. To save money on healthcare, a mother unknowingly moves her family into the infamous haunted house so she can provide home care for her comatose son.
DARK TOWER- July 28
Stephen King’s famous epic is finally coming to the big screen, and Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey are starring as the notorious Gunslinger and Man in Black. Our fingers are crossed that this might turn into a larger franchise.
ANNABELLE: CREATION- August 11
Helmed by David Sandberg (who brought us LIGHTS OUT last summer), this is the tale of Annabelle’s origins. A doll-maker and his wife open their home to a nun and several orphaned girls.
IT- September 8
Just as summer is ending, we are set to get one final horror blast, and it looks to be a great one! The trailer for IT is just plain epic, hitting all the right horror notes, so we cannot wait to see this updated incarnation of the notorious Pennywise.
