The Transcript of This Frantic Police Call Hints at Unspeakable Horrors

This nightmarish viral tale allegedly originated in Australia (possibly a first for this column), and was first shared online a little over a year ago. But the Reddit account from which it originated — identified only by the Australian phone number 61-795-280-942 — has been mysteriously removed.

That same phone number corresponds to the transcript of a strange and frightening emergency call which took place between a police station outside the tiny town of Nairne, South Australia and a resident of the same community, identified only as “Matthias.”

The timeline is not provided, but it’s likely the conversation took place not very long ago.

The full transcript can be read here… but beginning below is a slightly edited version, with a few annotations.

WARNING: NSFW language ahead.

DISPATCHER: This is Rachael on the line, who might I be speaking with?

CALLER: This… this is Matthias.

DISPATCHER: Okay, Matthias… Please state your emergency and address.

CALLER: My address is 42 Inverness Street. The emergency is… it’s… forced suicide.

DISPATCHER: Sorry… what was that again?

CALLER: A forced suicide.

DISPATCHER: I see… are there any markings on the body?

CALLER: There’s… there’s three claw marks along her throat… Clothes have been torn… The room’s a mess… Fuck… Oh fuck, there’s so much blood…

DISPATCHER: Is there anyone with you right now?

CALLER: My wife is downstairs in the basement with my son currently. My brother was here, but when the power went out… I don’t know where he is.

DISPATCHER: The power’s been cut?

DISPATCHER: Okay, we’re sending officers over there now. It should be about 5 to 10 minutes before they get there. Please hold the line for me.

CALLER: No, no, no, NO! Please wait…

At this point, the dispatcher’s voice is replaced with that of a man identifying himself as “Officer Gale,” who begins questioning the caller about details of the incident — including how much time passed between the power being cut and the caller finding his daughter’s corpse (just 10 minutes, the caller says). He then instructs the caller to remain calm and back very slowly away from his daughter’s body.

OFFICER GALE: Get out of the room and get to the basement. Do I make myself clear? Do it immediately. Officers are on their way to the premises.

CALLER: Okay… I’ll try.

GALE: Sir, are you out of the room?

CALLER: Yes, I’m heading downstairs now… What… what the fuck is that?

GALE: Sir, you have to start running. Run as fast as you can, get down to the basement, and whatever you do, don’t look back. Do I make myself clear?”

CALLER [panicking]: Yes! I understand! Oh God… Elliot… oh fuck… fucking hell… Lisa! Lisa! Are you down there? Yes, I’m here… Please open the door! God… Open the door!

GALE: Sir?

CALLER [crying]: He’s dead… My brother’s dead… He was ripping his… Oh my fucking God… LISA! OPEN THE DAMN DOOR!

GALE: Sir, please remain calm. Officers will be there in three minutes, okay? Find somewhere safe to hide, and remember: Do not look at it. I repeat, do not look at it!

CALLER: It’s going to be all right, Lisa… Darling… Look at me… It’s going to be fine… We need to go right now, okay? We need to leave.

At this stage, Matthias seems to be ignoring Officer Gale’s requests for more information, and won’t say whether the basement is secure. He also can be heard repeatedly calling out to “Lisa” and “Josh,” whom we can presume are Matthias’s wife and son. It’s also increasingly apparent that Lisa has been horribly injured during their escape attempt.

As the exchange goes on, it seems the basement is not safe, and Matthias can be heard desperately pulling his wife and son to safety in the kitchen before he finally replies to the officer’s repeated requests for updates.

CALLER: She… She looked so… That face… Those eyes… What did it do to Lisa? Shhh, Sweetie… it’s going to be okay, your Mummy’s alright… No, please don’t say that.

GALE: Sir?

CALLER: Just keep moving, just keep moving, that’s right… Here… Go play with this for a while… I’ll just be inside for a moment. People will be here for you, they’ll be here for you…

GALE: Hello, Sir? Matthias? What’s going on right now?

CALLER [whispering]: It’s making them do it… How… Fuck… It’s going to get us all.

GALE [louder]: Christ… Matthias, please hold on a moment longer! They’re almost there…

CALLER: Do you see what I see? Do you hear what I hear? It isn’t human… It isn’t human… IT TORE HER APART…

GALE: Matthias! Where are you right now? Where’s your son?

CALLER: …and she was smiling… like a child…

Around this point in the recording, the dispatched officers have apparently arrived at the caller’s house, and Officer Gale informs Matthias of their presence. He also mentions something about a “purge” operation to be completed before the caller can leave his “safe zone.”

But this order seems to have come too late.

CALLER: [whispering] I think… I think it’s already inside of me.

GALE: Matthias… stay with me…

CALLER: [faintly] It’s already… here.

GALE: Matthias? Hello! Are you there? Matthias!

The sound of a young boy can be heard in the background.

BOY: Daddy! No! Why’s my Daddy not moving? Let me go! Let me go!

GALE: Fucking Christ…

All at once, the child’s voice on the phone is replaced with that of another police officer, who identifies herself as “Carlson.”

CARLSON: Sir, I’m afraid the family has been compromised… all except for the child. Shall we proceed with the purge?

GALE: As you wish. If you find it, don’t leave any trace. Erase the boy’s memory too. This is going to take one hell of a cleanup. Expedite at all costs, before the press get their hands on this.

CARLSON: What shall we say?

GALE: Log it as a murder-suicide. The mother went mad and killed her husband, daughter and brother-in-law, leaving her son alive before taking her own life.

CARLSON: Sir… the woman, she’s… rather a mess.

GALE: Just arrange the scene like that, whatever works best. Hang on… I’m getting another call.
