Sad news today. Various outlets are reporting that actor Miguel Ferrer has passed away. He was 61 years old.
Ferrer was a regular on NCIS: LOS ANGELES, but of course genre fans grew up with him as Bob Morton from Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 quotable cult masterpiece ROBOCOP.
He’s also well known for his role as Dr. Garret Macy on CROSSING JORDON and Agent Albert Rosenfield on TWIN PEAKS. The new Showtime revival slated to premiere on May 21st is officially wrapped, and Ferrer was earlier reported to have returned to reprise his Agent Rosenfield on the series.
His body of work was vast, but I also have to point out his lead role as reporter Richard Dees in Mark Pavia’s 1997 Stephen King adaptation of THE NIGHT FLIER. Ferrer was battling throat cancer, and according to reports, passed peacefully while surrounded by friends and family.
George Clooney, Ferrer’s cousin, sent this statement over to THR: “Today history will mark giant changes in our world, and lost to most will be that on the same day Miguel Ferrer lost his battle to throat cancer. But not lost to his family. Miguel made the world brighter and funnier and his passing is felt so deeply in our family that events of the day, (monumental events), pale in comparison. We love you Miguel. We always will.”
