Ryan Turek’s 10 Favorite Horror Films of 2016

Since I was old enough to mail in my ballot for Fangoria’s Chainsaw Awards (yes, snail mail with a stamp and all!) I’ve been fashioning my own “best in horror” lists. Tastes and selection process have changed over the 25 years or so, of course. This year, as you peruse my picks below, I want you to keep these things in mind: There are no Blumhouse films, and, these are the films I consider “favorites of the year.” They’re both movies I will revisit and movies I think are terrific for a handful of reasons. I expand on those reasons on Shock Waves episode 33! (Embedded below!)

Special mention should go to: THE MONSTER, EMELIE, TICKLED, NINA FOREVER, and THE CONJURING 2. Meanwhile, a few films I saw on the festival circuits that you should keep an eye out for in 2017 that may end up on my “best of” list a year from now: RAW, BEWARE THE SLENDERMAN, A DARK SONG, SWEET SWEET LONELY GIRL, and THE LURE.
