It’s hard not to love Guillermo del Toro, right?
I mean, what it really boils down to is he’s one of us. Sure, he’s ridiculously talented and artistic, and makes great fantastical films, but he also collects a hell of a lot of cool horror goodies as can be seen with his now-touring Bleak House exhibit. But also, he absolutely loves movies.
Case in point, did you know that at one point, he taught a series of master class lectures specifically on the films and filmmaking craft of Alfred Hitchcock? That’s right, the acclaimed “master of suspense” had an incredibly indelible effect on del Toro, so much that he was inspired to pay forward the lessons he learned from growing up watching Hitchcock’s movies.
Back in 2012 when these lectures took place, del Toro stopped by Studio Q to discuss his love of Hitchcock with interviewer and host Jian Ghomeshi. It’s an intriguing and great half hour discussion breaking down one of cinema’s masters.
Kick back, relax and check it out. Professor del Toro is here and school is in session!
