Some people have said that the 90s were not a good decade for horror movies, but those guys are assholes. I like 90s horror! Take a trip back through the decade that gave us Nirvana, Birkenstocks, and sensitive guys with ponytails by checking out some of the excellent 90s horror titles currently available on Netflix.
THE RELIC (1997)
The 90s became known for action-horror films, many including lavish, large monsters. THE RELIC is by far one of the best of the decade. A scientist ships a crate of relics back to his museum just before he goes missing. His colleagues open the crate, completely unaware that an evolving, growing monster is lurking in the cargo.
EVENT HORIZON (1997)(COVER PHOTO)
Another giant action/horror film from the late 90s, this one focuses on a spaceship that disappeared into a black hole years prior. Though considered lost, it has now reemerged, and a crew is sent to investigate.
WES CRAVEN’S NEW NIGHTMARE (1994)
Remember when Freddy was scary? And then he stopped being scary and became funny. But by 1994, Freddy got scary again! In this meta approach, the actors and actresses behind the original NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET are confronted with the possibility that Freddy may be real.
FROM DUSK TILL DAWN (1996)
Two bank robbers and their hostages wind-up in a sleazy strip club which is run by vampires.
The “director’s cut” of NIGHTBREED is currently streaming on Netflix! Clive Barker has long stated that he lost control of the film’s final edit and never liked the cut that was released. Now decades later, watch the movie as Barker had originally intended.
CAPE FEAR (1991)
Some will argue this is not a true horror movie, but those people are assholes too. This movie scared the hell out of me. An attorney withholds evidence, thus wrongfully convicting a man who 14 years later stalks the attorney and his family in order to seek out revenge.
