Video Store Lovers – Check Out This Short Doc Tribute To Portland, Maine’s VIDEOPORT

I don’t know what it is, but I come from the generation that distinctly remembers just how pivotal and important the video store experience was for me as a movie fan. Spending hours scanning the boxes of VHS tapes and eventually DVDs, taking my time with key decisions as to what cinematic magic would be my company for the weekend. Sadly, the majority of these stores are all long gone. I know I’m not alone in missing these places, because we posted this video a few months back about one of the last remaining Blockbuster Video Stores.

Now, we’ve got another short 5 minute documentary for you to check out courtesy of production company p3 out of Maine. It’s about famed movie rental outlet called VIDEOPORT, based in Portland, Maine. After 3 decades, they closed their doors back in August of 2015. Watch the clip and you can see what became of their epic 18,000 movie titles.

If there’s any lesson to be learned from these videos, it should be to always support your local independent businesses whenever you have the opportunity, because you never know when they’ll be gone!
