Jason Voorhees is back and set to hit theaters in January of 2017. The immortal hockey-mask-wearing killing machine is now preparing to embark on the 13th film installment of the ever-popular FRIDAY THE 13TH franchise. Rumors have been swirling about the possible new film (as well as the long awaited tv show), but The Reel Word discovered during an interview with producer Brad Fuller that Platinum Dunes (Michael Bay’s company) is moving forward with the film project as soon as they complete the new TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES flick.
In addition to stating that Jason’s mother, Pamela Voorhees, will be returning, Fuller also revealed that the movie will NOT be found footage. Whew!
They have attached Aaron Guzikowski (PRISONERS) to pen the screenplay.
Fuller stated, “Aaron’s story has great characters… You kind of have to understand Jason Voorhees, so we go back, and we kind of started over and work our way forward.”
It also appears like it will be an origin story of sorts, and we are excited to finally see the back story of this legendary slasher and his equally twisted mama.
Brad Fuller will be producing the film along with Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay and Andrew Form. The film is currently slated for release on January 13th, 2017. Yes, it will be opening on Friday the 13th.
