It’s the biggest annual horror film festival in the US, it’s been the proving ground for dozens of up-and-coming genre filmmakers, and it’s officially returning for its 16th year just in time for Halloween 2016.
Fest promoters have just announced the dates for Screamfest 2016, which will run from October 18-27 at Hollywood’s TCL Chinese Theatres.
Also announced is this year’s festival ambassador: actress Lydia Hearst, star of the films CONDEMNED (pictured above, which premiered at last year’s Screamfest), CABIN FEVER: PATIENT ZERO and #HORROR (all three of which are currently available for streaming on Netflix).
“Screamfest provides an amazing platform for filmmakers and actors like me to showcase our latest work,” Hearst said, “and to receive direct feedback from the horror and genre community.”
The festival’s previous discoveries include PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, and it has hosted world premieres of LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE, TRICK R TREAT, 30 DAYS OF NIGHT and many more. Over the past 16 years, the fest has had the support of legendary genre names like John Carpenter, Sam Raimi, Clive Barker, Eli Roth, James Wan, Zack Snyder, William Friedkin, John Landis and James Gunn.
Filmmakers and screenwriters wishing to submit their works to the festival must have entries in by August 1. Winners will receive a 24-karat gold-plated statuette designed by the late, great FX legend Stan Winston.
