R.I.P. Actor George Kennedy (1925-2016)

In another of many painful losses to the genre community and the history of cinema at large, we’ve learned that George Kennedy, Oscar-winning character actor and veteran of the big and small screen, passed away yesterday at the age of 91. His passing was disclosed to the public by his grandson Cory Schenkel, via Facebook.

While his lengthy resume spans nearly every genre in existence, and his Oscar-winning role in COOL HAND LUKE is held up as a cinematic landmark, Kennedy is also remembered fondly by horror fans for his memorable roles in CREEPSHOW 2, JUST BEFORE DAWN, BRAIN DEAD, DEATH SHIP, STRAIT-JACKET, and THE TERROR WITHIN.

Kennedy had most recently co-starred with Mark Wahlberg in 2014’s THE GAMBLER, and published his autobiography, Trust Me, in 2011.
