The ad campaign for the notoriously gory, outrageously campy, hilariously goofy 1982 slasher flick PIECES promised “You don’t have to go to Texas for a chainsaw massacre!” Well, now you can have that massacre delivered right to your living room in glorious high-definition — thanks to the upcoming Deluxe Edition Blu-ray release of the cult favorite, from the good folks at Grindhouse Releasing.
The colossal three-disc set will include a 4K restoration of the film, as well as a slew of bloody extras, including a 42nd Street documentary produced by Calum Waddell & Naomi Holwill, audio commentary by Jack Taylor, liner notes by Rick Sullivan of Gore Gazette, and a reproduction of the jigsaw puzzle featured in the film’s prologue (limited to the first 3000 units).
Here’s a tip for dedicated fans: thanks to a special promotion between Grindhouse and Diabolik DVD, if you pre-order your copy of the Deluxe Edition from Diabolik’s website, you’ll receive the set on February 23, while Amazon will release the package the following week, on March 1.
Also, look for PIECES to paint the screen red at select theaters ahead of the Blu-ray release: according to Grindhouse Releasing theatrical director and publicist David Szulkin, they will be screening the film at midnight showings and on college campuses across the country in the coming weeks — starting with the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Boston, where much of the film was shot!
In the meantime, I’ll leave you with the immortal words of Lynda Day George, from her most memorable scene:
“Bastard! BASTARD!… BASTARD!!!”
