Happy New Year’s Eve, horror fans! It is that time of year where we are all forced to evaluate the changes we need to make in our lives and take vows of absolution for the coming year. Yeah, New Year’s resolutions!

We can always use some reinforcement to help begin our journeys to greatness. Thinking of losing weight or quitting smoking? To Stop Smoking:

Watch ELVES (1989)

CONSTANTINE (both TV show and 2005 movie) seem like a go-to choices since the main character is riddled with lung cancer, but I find the film ELVES to be most effective with breaking the nicotine habit. Watching a lumbering and chain-smoking Dan Haggerty puff down cartons of Camels while hacking up a lung on screen is enough to curb anyone’s habit. He is never seen without a smoke, and he looks like he is about to keel over at any minute. My lungs ache just watching this one.

To Lose Weight:

Watch TAXIDERMIA (2006)

So feel good in general for watching such a health-inducing genre!

It also seems like a nice revolting body horror flick would curb your appetite a bit, so I’m going to recommend TAXIDERMIA. You won’t eat for days after this one!

To Party/Drink Less:

Watch STREET TRASH (1987)       

POLTERGEIST 2 could cause you to lessen your partying, especially if every time you drank liquor, you puked up a weird reptilian creature with perfect teeth on your living room rug.

But to really see the gruesome effects of alcohol, check out 1987’s STREET TRASH, and stay away from the Viper!

To Exercise and Be More Active:

Watch 28 DAYS LATER (2002) and 28 WEEKS LATER (2007)

Always remember, a zombie outbreak could happen at any moment! And once the zombies come, your best defense is your ability to run and maneuver obstacles. For inspiration, check out some of the genre’s finest fast-moving zombie flicks including the REC series, WORLD WAR Z, and the 28 DAYS LATER films.

To Go Vegetarian:

Watch COOTIES (2014) and THE BAY (2012)

Trying to ease up on your meat intake and push more veggies? THE BAY is a good starting point as it focuses on the parasites that are born out of the meat-processing industry.

Also, the first 10 minutes of COOTIES will give you pause before dining on meat. I have not been able to eat a chicken nugget since viewing this one!
