Sure, we all know Hannibal Lecter and Norman Bates, but horror movie history is filled with crazed killers, fascinating MOs, and tense detective work. Check out our list of five serial killer movies you may have missed. These are all Blumhouse.com approved serial killer deep cuts.
LIGHTHOUSE aka DEAD OF NIGHT (1999)
A prison ship crashes on a rock causing the crew and the prisoners to wash-up on a deserted lighthouse island. While scattered guards and prisoners search for shelter, the notorious serial killer Leo Rook begins picking off the survivors by beheading them.
A detective, played by Willem Dafoe, hunts a serial killer who sculpts his victims’ bodies into works of art. This one gets quite gory!
MR. BROOKS (2007)
Starring Demi Moore and Kevin Costner, a businessman/serial killer (played by Costner) is forced to take on a protégé who complicates his bloodthirsty inclinations.
EYES OF LAURA MARS (1978)
Written by the legendary John Carpenter, this film kick-started his career. Faye Dunaway plays a fashion photographer who is known for the liberal use of violence in her pics. While battling accusations that her photographs glorify violence, she begins experiencing strange visions that allow her to see through the eyes of a serial killer.
MAN BITES DOG (1992)
In one of the earlier (and better) examples of found footage horror, a film crew documents the life of a serial killer. The crew soon loses their objectivity and becomes involved in the crimes. And it’s a dark comedy!
And Honorable Mention-
I only put this in the “honorable mention” ranking because it is not obscure enough to be a “deep cut”. But it is an amazing serial killer flick that, if you have not seen, you should stop everything and go find! Brad Pitt plays a serial killer traveling cross-country with his troubled wife (Juliette Lewis) and a writer/photog couple played by David Duchovny and Michelle Forbes. I strongly believe this is Brad Pitt’s best performance ever.
