Horror and sex always seem to travel in similar circles, perhaps both tapping in to our most base desires and fears. Yet, sometimes it gets weird…really weird. Feeling daring and experimental? Try out some of these 10 Bizarre Horror Sexploitation Films. Just know in advance these films are extreme, twisted, and downright wacky. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
DON’T DELIVER US FROM EVIL (1971)
Two girls from a Catholic School swear allegiance to Satan and turn the convent upside down in a web of seduction and murder.
DR. CALIGARI (1989)
Directed by porn legend Rinse Dream, this “almost porn but not quite” film explores the Caligari mythos decades after 1920s CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI. Calgari’s granddaughter is a sex-pot psychologist with some very questionable medical practices. The language is disjointed, the sets are even more expressionistic than the original film, and frankly, I have no idea what really went down here, but the movie is mesmerizing to watch!
This Italian film played numerous festivals back in 2012, but is only now getting a very quiet stateside release to DVD. The film focuses on a chain of murders surrounding a sex club, and though some of the acting is rough in spots, the visuals are remarkable.
VALERIE AND HER WEEK OF WONDERS (1970)
Based off a novel from the 1930s, Valerie is coming of age and suddenly seeing the more sinister side of her small town including perverse priests and vampires!
EDGE OF SANITY (1989)
Long past his original PSYCHO days, Anthony Perkins made a strange yet intriguing sexually-charged film focusing around the Jekyll/Hyde story. Though set in Victorian times, the film has an eccentric 80s vibe complete with neon Madonna-esque costuming.
VAMPYRES is a fun and controversial British release about a female vampire duo who roam England’s rural landscape looking for beaus to seduce and kill.
GO, GO SECOND TIME VIRGIN (1969)
Imagine if Goddard made the most well-crafted, artistic rape/revenge film ever. That is what Koji Wakamatsu did time and again on many of Japan’s legendary “pinku eiga” films. This film is remarkably cinematic and visually captivating with style and political undertones rarely seen in exploitation sex films. But remember it is still a highly brutal film, and regardless of the profoundly good filmmaking, you still can’t un-watch the content. Proceed with extreme caution.
THE ACID EATERS (1968)
Part of the late 1960s “drugsploitation” film cycle (though it bills itself as the first), THE ACID EATERS is about a group of friends who ride their motorcycles to the middle of nowhere for a weekend of LSD and weird sex. The rest of the plot is a bit confusing as the acid takes hold, but Satan shows up…and there is a lot of the aforementioned weird sex.
GIRL BOSS GUERILLA (1972)
Another of Japan’s “pink films”, this one is from Toei and focuses on an all girl biker gang. With a fast moving plot, GIRL BOSS is bizarre and highly sexual, yet extraordinarily feminist as well.
GIRL SLAVES OF MORGANA LE FAY (1971)
GIRL SLAVES is pure eroticism and a classic example of 1970s Eurotrash cinema. Set in the French countryside, sorcerer Morgana Le Fay resides in a vast castle where she keeps scores of ladies imprisoned as her servants. The pace is slow, and the sex is only nuanced, but like much of the Eurotrash staples, the visuals are spectacular and amp up the sexy style.
