The First Annual Living Dead Horror Convention is gearing up to launch next month in Portland, Oregon, and so far they’ve lined up some amazing guests, panels, contests, films, parties and much more.
The Living Dead Horror Convention was developed in association with the horror lifestyle/culture publication Living Dead Magazine, conceived by its creator and owner Deanna Uutela and writer/sales director James R. Beach. Their goal is to bring a celebrity-based horror convention to their hometown of Portland, and “to give fans of all genres of horror and all forms (from film to art and music to literature) the perfect mix of everything they love all rolled into one gore-filled weekend.”
Celebrity guests will include FRIDAY THE 13th alumni Adrienne King and Ari Lehman, Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman, Lisa Marie (WE ARE STILL HERE), horror authors Joe R. Lansdale (BUBBA HO-TEP), (TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE co-stars Ed Neal, Terry McMinn and John Dugan, horror icon Barbara Steele (BLACK SUNDAY), Dark Horse Comics Editor-In-Chief Scott Allie, artist Ghoulish Gary Pullin, MUNSTERS stars Butch Patrick and Pat Priest, author/director John Skipp (TALES OF HALLOWEEN), and our own Editor-In-Chief Rebekah McKendry!
Note that plans for a TWIN PEAKS mini-reunion have changed due to the untimely passing of “Log Lady” actress and long-time David Lynch collaborator Catherine Coulson, but so far co-star Dana Ashbrook is scheduled to appear, with more to be announced soon.
The packed event calendar will include panels and workshops including “Women in Horror,” “Horror in Comics” and “Guts & Gore.” Multiple contests will pick “Best Classic Horror Costume,” “Best Slasher Costume,” “Best Cult Classic Costume,” “Best TWIN PEAKS Costume,” “Best Horror Tattoo,” “Best Couple,” and “King & Queen of Horror.” Lloyd Kaufman is also slated to conduct one of his famous “Make Your Own Damn Movie!” workshops.
Parties will include a FRIDAY THE 13TH-themed party (on Friday the 13th, no less!) at The Lovecraft, Portland’s #1 horror-themed bar, and a TWIN-PEAKS-themed party the following night. Other entertainment – including live bands, a burlesque show and a live freakshow – will be featured as well.
Living Dead Con will launch on Friday, November 13th and run through Sunday the 15th at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland. Ticket and registration info is available at the con’s official site, and the film screening/event schedule and guest roster is being updated there every day, so be sure to visit soon!
