Well, this is cause for celebration!
I’d heard about the cult UK sci-fi modern take on THE TWILIGHT ZONE shortly after it premiered overseas from numerous friends, but much like the rest of the American audience, I didn’t really get to delve into the world of BLACK MIRROR until it appeared on the Netflix streaming service. Because of the sudden popularity of the show, there were rumors of a potential “American remake.” Thankfully, that’s not the case.
Instead, it’s been announced that Netflix has ordered up 12 new episodes of the mind-bending series, and yes, original exec-producers Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones are fully on board, making this more of a 3rd season rather than a reboot. Production begins later this year and Brooker told EW, “It’s all very exciting — a whole new bunch of Black Mirror episodes on the most fitting platform imaginable. Netflix connects us with a global audience so that we can create bigger, stranger, more international and diverse stories than before, whilst maintaining that Black Mirror feel. I just hope none of these new story ideas come true.”
Netflix vice president Cindy Holland added, “Charlie has created a one-of-a-kind series with an uncanny voice and prescient, darkly comedic vision. We’re tremendously proud to bring Black Mirror to our members as a Netflix original series.”
