Another one of Clive Barker’s vast properties is being adapted, this time for TV! Deadline reports that The CW are currently developing a new series based upon Clive Barker’s WEAVEWORLD with Jack Kenny (WAREHOUSE 13) writing and exec-producing. Barker will also act as exec producer. According to the report, “The show gives a contemporary makeover to the premise of the novel, which was published in 1987. In the TV adaptation, an app designer teams up with a young pastry chef who has just discovered that she is destined to be guardian of a mythological realm that can be accessed through a portal in an old Savannah mansion. Together, they fight an epic battle with evil forces who are vying for control of the magical world.”
The article also implies that up until now, the story has always been too ambitious in scope and would be too expensive to produce. But considering the success that The CW has had with THE FLASH, a very FX-heavy program, they’re going to try to fully realize Barker’s world. Most well known as the father of Pinhead and creator of the HELLRAISER series, it will be interesting to see how this Barker tale translates to both television and with a modern setting.
