Stephen King’s THE MIST Drifting Over To TV

“There’s something in the mist!”

It seems yet another one of Stephen King’s properties is making its way to TV. Deadline reports that The Weinstein Company’s Dimension Television is currently developing THE MIST into a TV series. Christian Torpe, the creator of the Danish series RITA is on board to script and the series has King’s blessing.

The article posts the following synopsis: “The series will tell an original story about a seemingly innocuous mist that seeps into a small town but contains limitless havoc. From psychological terrors to otherworldly creatures, the mist causes the town residents’ darkest demons to appear forcing them to battle the supernatural event and, more importantly, each other.”

“The terror and drama in Stephen King’s novella are so vast that we felt serialized television is the best place to explore them in greater depth,” said Bob Weinstein, co-chairman The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films. “With this show, Christian has created a fascinating band of characters and a story with infinite scares.”

It’ll be interesting to see how this version will be expanded or different from Frank Darabont’s already exceptional 2007 adaptation. Seriously, we strongly recommend checking out the all “black & white” version of the movie on the DVD and Blu-Ray if you haven’t already. For a TV series, they’ll have to leave the supermarket, right? But does that mean they’ll be traveling from town to town, facing potential monsters and threats? Are they aiming for a WALKING DEAD style approach with THE MIST? More when we hear it!
